Bio:

Diego Tapia is a passionate musician and educator from Argentina with over a decade of experience teaching piano and Indian percussion to students of all levels.

After studying Indian Classical music and performing in Hindu temples across the Americas, Diego moved to the United States in 2013, where he founded the Vamsi School of Music and expanded his performance career by collaborating with diverse musicians. He currently teaches piano at the Merit School of Music and through the Community Music Program at Northeastern Illinois University. Diego previously taught group piano for the City Colleges of Chicago’s Continuing Education Program. He holds an MA in Piano Pedagogy and has presented his research on Argentine music at prestigious conferences. He is dedicated to inspiring his students and continuing his own musical journey toward new horizons.

“In addition to teaching, I work as a librarian at the Chicago Public Library, where I help people find the information they need, combining my passion for education and community service.”

Favorite Song:

My favorite piece is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 because it represents the summit of pianistic development and contains a universe of expression—larger than life, perhaps. Learning how to perform and listen to it feels like owning a priceless asset.

Quote:

“Music education is essential because it offers every person the chance to explore and develop their inner musicianship, regardless of background or age. At Merit School of Music, students thrive in an environment that celebrates diversity, creativity, and active learning, while also fostering artistic and expressive performance skills through recitals and diverse teaching methods. I am truly honored to be part of such an inspiring and supportive community that is committed to transforming lives through music.”
