Bio:
Established as one of the up-and-coming baritone saxophonists, Jimmy Farace’s compositions have been described as “delightfully elegant, flirtatiously succulent” (Exclusive Magazine) and his tone has been celebrated as “big and sonorous – visceral while giving hints of Gerry Mulligan coolness” (Jazz Weekly). Farace currently works as a freelance jazz musician, composer, arranger, and educator in Chicago, Illinois. Farace can be seen performing at venues such as Andy’s Jazz Club, Evanston Space, Fulton Street Collective, Merrimen’s Playhouse, and several others around Chicago.
In addition to exposing students to beautiful art, I believe music education is so important because it teaches students valuable life lessons such as teamwork, determination, socialization, work ethic, and integrity. Merit’s ability to remove barriers to high-quality music education makes it such a special place to learn about music and life.

Favorite Musicians:
My favorite song is Joe Temperley’s “Single Petal of a Rose” from the live performance of Celebrating Joe Temperley in Concert in 2015. His tone, timbre, and melodic phrasing demonstrate the gold standard of how emotionally moving music can be.
