Bio:
Pianist, Ann Yi is a versatile soloist and chamber musician with a broad range of musical interests, ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. As a new music specialist, Ann has performed with the Eco Ensemble, Ensemble Dal Niente, the University of Chicago New Music Ensemble, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the sfSoundGroup, and Earplay. She has performed works by numerous major figures in contemporary music, including Pierre Boulez, Brian Ferneyhough, György Ligeti, Jonathan Harvey, and has collaborated closely with a number of notable composers, such as Sylvano Bussotti, Stefano Scodanibbio, Christopher Wendell Jones and many emerging composers of our time.
An active performer, Ann served as the artist-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for the 2017-2018 season, and was featured twice on the concert series, ‘Sensoria: New and Experimental Music’. Recent solo performances include a world premiere performance of new works for piano and electronics, which were created for her by UWM faculty and student composers. Ann was also featured as soloist with U.C. Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Stanford Symphony Orchestra, the Eco Ensemble, and Ensemble 20+. She has premiered numerous works including twelve preludes for piano commissioned to commemorate the 2012-13 centennial of the DePaul University School of Music in Illinois. Her recordings of these preludes were released by DePaul University School of Music, in celebration of this anniversary.
Ann has also appeared at the Venice Music Biennale Festival in Italy, in which her performances were broadcasted live on Radio 3, Cartellone, Italy. Other appearances include the MANCA New Music Festival in France, the Festival Internacional Chihuahua in Mexico, the Ear Taxi Festival in Chicago, Old First Concerts in San Francisco, Cal Performances at U.C. Berkeley, Festival of New American Music at CSU Sacramento, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Latino Music Festival at University of Chicago, Music from the Edge New Music Festival at Stanford University, New Music DePaul, the Frequency Series at Constellation, the June in Buffalo Festival in New York, among others. Her performances are featured on recordings on the Innova, Tzadik, and New Focus Recordings labels. A dedicated teacher, Ann is on the faculty at Harold Washington College and Merit School of Music.
