Merit School of Music’s Comunidad de Alegre is a community-based strings program providing a fun, culturally representative, and excellence-based music education experience for young music lovers.

Absolute Beginners Welcome!

Turn up the music with high-quality music programming taught by top music educators. 

Your child will benefit from the pairing of the Suzuki Method with a diverse array of music from Latinx and other cultures that reflect the diversity of Chicago.

Ages 5-14

January 21 – May 13
Tuesdays @ 4pm

Now enrolling for Winter/Spring semester!

Beginning Comunidad de Alegre classes focus on the foundations of proper string technique, basic musical concepts, and performance skills in both small and large group settings.

Ages 6-15

October 29 – May 13
Tuesdays @ 4, 5, or 6pm

Take your young strings player’s talents to the next level! Continuing students will build upon beginning Comunidad de Alegre classes, adding new technical and musical skills with each piece of repertoire.
