Bio:

Claire Bachman grew up in Minneapolis, MN, where she was drawn to the cello in a now unique program that introduced orchestral string instruments to all 1st graders in her public school. She received 2 lessons on a painted kleenex box violin, before being transferred to the cello group class. Her love of and passion for sharing music started here, and informs her teaching philosophy today.

Ms. Bachman has studied largely with cellists Tanya Carey, Janet Anthony, and Hong Wang. Founder of the Jetoj Music Series, she focused on sharing classical music with listeners regardless of opportunity or privilege. She strives to perform and learn music from a diverse group of composers that is ever-expanding.

Ms. Bachman believes that all students, regardless of age, background, or resources should be able to learn and to master music. At Lawrence, she studied pedagogy with Steven Jordheim. She is a Suzuki registered teacher, having had the opportunity to study pedagogy with Tanya Carey, Beth Cantrell, and Jean Dexter through the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).
