Stringtacular is a vibrant collaboration of young string players representing Merit’s music programs at El Valor Guadalupe Reyes Center, Brighton Park’s Gunsaulus Scholastic Academy, Pilsen’s Whittier Elementary School, and Merit’s Suzuki-Alegre Strings program.

Experience the joy and energy of more than 300 first grade through high school students, all performing together on one stage.

Merit’s Suzuki-Alegre students are renowned for their extraordinary talent and fusion of Latinx folk music with the Suzuki method. They have performed at the opening of the National Museum of Mexican Art, played for President Vicente Fox of Mexico, toured Japan, made several television appearances, and experienced the joy and power of music in their lives.

For more than twenty years, Merit School of Music has been combining the Suzuki Method of music instruction with a diverse array of music from Latinx culture to create a performance-based program of violin, viola, cello, and bass classes taught across the Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods and at Merit’s West Loop campus.

Suzuki-Alegre Strings weaves ensemble learning and multiple music traditions into the time-honored tenets of the Suzuki method: listening, imitation, repetition, and parent participation.
