A violin and viola player, Johanna Yeager comes from a musical family and studied music as a young child. As she got older, she realized her true passion was for teaching and melded her musical talents with her love for working with children to become a professional music educator.
Ms. Yeager earned a Bachelor in Music Education from DePaul University, studying with Mark Zinger and Stefan Hersch. She has completed Suzuki Teacher Training in violin with Michele Higa George and Ann Monztka-Smelser.
At Merit, she teaches Suzuki-Alegre Strings group classes, Cherub Orchestra and private violin and viola lessons. Ms. Yeager strives to help each student “craft a love of music” and encourages both personal and musical growth. She has maintained a home violin and viola studio for 15 years.
Ms. Yeager is married to a high school orchestra director. Together, they have three daughters – each of whom play string instruments. Her commitment to helping children extends to her personal time, during which she volunteers weekly at her daughters’ elementary school.
“Merit is a very special place, where every individual is valued and supported. Students at Merit come from all over the region to form a community, make friends, and create music together.”
