M.M., Piano Pedagogy
Illinois Wesleyan University
A love of music attracted Merit instructor Jeff Norris to the piano and to teach private and group piano lessons. He works to instill in his students this same love of music, along with a good work ethic, while promoting good practice habits.
Joining the Merit faculty in 1988, Mr. Norris teaches piano instruction through Merit’s Instrumental Music program, and the Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory. He also is a piano mentor. Previously, Mr. Norris taught piano at Illinois Wesleyan University. In addition to his role at Merit, he is the music director for the Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
An accomplished accompanist and performer, Mr. Norris earned his Bachelor in Music in piano performance at Illinois Wesleyan University, and his Master in Music in piano pedagogy from Southern Methodist University, where he studied with David Karp and Louise Bianchi. He regularly attends the annual week-long Keyboard Ensemble Technology Seminar (KETS) under the direction of Susan Ogilvy, and is certified to teach on the clavinova.
“Its mission and diversity of Merit students is what draws me to this institution.”
