Suzuki-Alegre Strings Cello Class, Pre-K General Music

DePaul University
Bachelor of Music

Janet Janz began her musical journey at age 10 with guitar lessons. She credits her own excellent high school music education (including learning to play the cello) for putting her on a musical instruction career path that enables her to pass along the joy of music to her students. Ms. Janz is the owner and director of the Suzuki Music School of Lincoln Park where she teaches cello, chamber music and Kindermusik classes.

Joining the Merit faculty in 1992, Ms. Janz teaches Instrumental Music cello classes and private cello lessons, along with a pre-K class through the school’s Bridges in-school music program. She also conducts Merit’s Stradivarius Strings.

An accomplished cellist in her own right, Ms. Janz is the principal cellist with the Lakeview Orchestra, and was delighted to perform on a recording with award winning singer-songwriter and teaching artist Amy Lowe. She holds a Bachelor in Music in music education from DePaul University, studying under Gilda Barston, and has studied for many years with Dr. Tanya Carey at Roosevelt University.
