Becca Dora is a Student Navigator for Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative. Originally from Wisconsin, Becca made her way to Merit after studying at DePaul with Alex Klein, formerly of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In demand as a performer, she has played with groups such as the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Composers Orchestra, and Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago. She has also had the privilege of performing on tour with Josh Groban, Lindsay Stirling, Hanson, and Evanescence.
Becca has taught for several local El Sistema inspired organizations such as the Chicago Arts and Music Project, El Sistema Ravinia, and People’s Music School. She has also been on the Faculty of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Chicago High School of the Arts.
When she’s not at Merit, Becca can be found practicing, making reeds for herself and others, playing video games, and hanging out with her cat Hamburger (Hammie for short).
I have too many favorite songs to name just one! One of my favorite classical music pieces is Partita for 8 Singers by Caroline Shaw. I grew up on rock music, but also love classical and pop too! I’m really into Alanis Morissette, Evanescence, Nirvana, anything classical minimalism/modern classical, any 90s music, and classic rock!
“Access to a quality music education is critical for building an empathetic and compassionate society. I also love the personal lessons that are learned through the hard work and struggle that comes with a career in music. Merit is an awesome place because it helps broaden access to musical education to anyone who desires it.”
