After moving to Chicago in 2008, Amy Riske began working at Merit in the fall of 2009 as the On-Site Program Assistant. Since that time, she has held positions in the early childhood, general music, piano, and voice/choir departments and now as Associate Dean and Piano Program Director. Amy grew up in rural Michigan where she learned to play the trumpet, tuba, and piano. She continued her education by earning her bachelor and master degrees in music composition.
“View from the Mountaintop” by Timothy Mahr – When I played this piece in my undergrad band everything seemed to click into place for me. I saw, for the first time, who I wanted to be as a composer one day.
“I love my job because of the opportunities we can create for students. Music is a path to building friendships, a vehicle into college, and a tool to learn about yourself. Every day I see the positive influence Merit can have on a student’s life and that’s why I’m here.”
