Competitions

Merit hosts a number of competitions for its students throughout the academic year.  The Barnett Chamber Music Competition is open to all chamber music groups including groups not part of the Merit School of Music.

32nd Annual Conservatory Private Lesson Scholarship Competition

Competition begins at 4:00 pm

Merit is proud to offer various private lesson scholarships to outstanding Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory students.  The five winners of the 32nd Annual Conservatory Private Lesson Scholarship Competition will each receive a cash award for private lesson instruction during the 2017 – 2018 school year.

Merit Young Musician Competition

March 27 – 31, 2017

The 12th Annual Merit Young Musician Competition is open to students in grade 9 or younger who are currently enrolled in Merit’s Instrumental & Vocal Music Program, Private Lessons, or Bridges: Partners in Music and are in the 2nd year of study and above or by teacher approval.  All instruments are welcome to participate in the Open Division and piano and string students have the option to compete in the Artistic Division.

2nd Annual Conservatory Solo Voice Competition

Merit’s 2nd Annual Conservatory Solo Voice Competition is open to all Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory voice students. Winners from each age division will receive a private lesson scholarship for the 2017 – 2018 school year. This competition is made possible with generous support from Caerus Foundation, Inc.

Conservatory Concerto Competition

Open to Conservatory students only, deadline to apply is Saturday, January 21, 2017.  The Concerto Competition winner will perform as a featured soloist with at upcoming Merit Spring Concert and may perform at MeritFest.
