This form is for students who are interested in taking private lessons at Merit School of Music

    Please submit your most recent federal 1040 tax form, proof of unemployment, or public assistance letter if you wish to be considered for financial aid. You may NOT receive financial aid until you have submitted the appropriate financial aid documents. Documents may be submitted via email (studentservices@meritmusic.org), fax 312-267-4489 or by dropping them off to the student services office.
  • Student Waiver and Policy Agreement

    In consideration of my (and/or my child’s) participation at Merit School of Music, I hereby release and discharge Merit School of Music, and its representatives, successors, and assigns, from any and all liability arising from accident, injury, and illness that I (he/she) may suffer as a result of my (our) participation. I (we) also will follow the rules and regulations set by Merit School of Music and above named parties. Parent or guardian must sign for anyone age 18 and under. PRIVATE LESSON ATTENDANCE POLICY: There are no excused absences for private lessons. Students are expected to be present and on time to all lessons and classes. Families are responsible for payment of all lessons whether or not the student is in attendance. Private lesson teachers are not required to reschedule lessons due to student absences or tardiness, however, make-up lessons can be given with instructor discretion. If the student is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, please contact the individual private lesson teacher directly at least 24 hours before a planned absence. If the instructor cancels the lesson or is late, the teacher is responsible for making up that lesson time. Merit may dismiss any student from private lessons with three consecutive absences without notification; who has a pattern of absences; who is consistently tardy; or who fails to adhere to their payment schedule. I do hereby grant and give these groups the right to use my or my child(s) photograph or image with or without my or my child's name, both singly and in conjunction with other persons or objects and presentations, advertising, publicity, and promotion relating thereto and in accordance with all the terms and conditions of Merit's policies.

Jazz: piano, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass, theory
Percussion: orchestral percussion, drum set

Strings: violin, viola, cello, string bass
Voice: classical, musical theater, jazz
Woodwinds: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone

AGES: 4+ (DEPENDING ON INSTRUMENT)

No experience necessary.

Private lessons are the key component to reaching one’s full potential as a musician, especially when combined with Merit School of Music’s Instrumental Music or Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition-free Conservatory programs. Merit School of Music’s faculty provides students with one-on-one instruction that is necessary to advance their level of musicianship and allows students to explore their individual talents and interests, develop skills and overcome challenges. Students who take private lessons learn in-depth instrumental technique, practice methods, dedication, commitment and achievement. Feedback is a required part of the process.

TUITION AND FINANCIAL AID

Standard Private Lesson Rates
60 minute lesson = $73
45 minute lesson = $56
30 minute lesson = $39

Note: Higher hourly rates apply to certain faculty. Please inquire with Student Services for more information.

PRIVATE LESSON PASSPORT (32 weeks)
Passports provide discounts on private lessons for students who participate in qualifying levels of Instrumental Music or Tuition-free Conservatory programs. Private lesson passports are available for students with approximately one year of playing experience and are based on a student’s steady progression through Merit’s group class curriculum. Please contact Student Services for more information regarding passport eligibility.

FINANCIAL AID
Financial aid is available to qualifying households**. For students enrolled in other programming (this includes Instrumental Music and the Tuition-free Conservatory) financial aid is in addition to the Passport rate. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis.
**Limited financial aid is available for qualifying students who are NOT enrolled in other summer programming
