GRADES VARY: Grades are based on Fall entry (see individual program descriptions)
Beginner to Intermediate (see detail below)
Merit’s Instrumental & Vocal Music program provides beginning musicians and those with previous experience the opportunity to develop their expressive life through music. In order to provide students with instruction that meets the need of each instrument, the Instrumental & Vocal Music program (Academic & Summer sessions) features five divisions:
+ Band (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion)
+ Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)
In each of these five divisions, students participate in a group instrumental and vocal music class where class where classes are large enough for students to play as a group, but small and nurturing enough for students to receive individual attention. The band, voice, and string programs also feature large ensembles where students come together to prepare and present diverse repertoire at concerts.
Students with no playing experience should enroll in Beginner classes; no audition is necessary. New students with playing experience must complete a placement audition in order to receive a class recommendation. Contact Student Services at 312.786.9428 or email@example.com to schedule an audition. Registration for the Summer Session will open in August 2017. You can register online or in-person in the Student Service office located in room 101. Please visit our registration and enrollment procedures page to see Student Services office hours.
Students will receive a teacher recommendation via email for the next appropriate class. Summer course recommendations will be e-mailed on March 20, 2017. You can register online or in-person after you have received your recommendation. Please make sure your current email address is updated in your student account.
