A personal love and appreciation of music and its ability to make a difference in children’s lives is what drew Libby Duncan to Merit. Ms. Duncan handles all marketing, public relations and social media initiatives for Merit’s programs and events, and is responsible for creating and managing a yearly marketing strategy, timeline and budget for the Marketing Department.
Prior to coming to Merit in 2011, Ms. Duncan worked for the Decatur (Illinois) Park District in marketing, interacting with federal, state, and local officials, along with elected board members, in a community-focused organization. In this role, Ms. Duncan helped to create and produce a weekly talk radio show, planned and supervised events, and implemented all aspects of the District’s multimedia marketing strategy. She was appointed to the 2011 Illinois Parks & Recreation Association’s Communication Task Force.
Ms. Duncan also worked as a brand ambassador on the ADM Natural Health Tour, a nationwide consumer awareness marketing tour, during which time she logged 35,000 miles in 18 months, driving to every state west of the Mississippi except for Montana, Alaska and Hawaii. This national grassroots marketing campaign engaged more than 800,000 consumers in its first year.
Ms. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the winning team for the regional competition for the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition in 2004. A lifetime (Kentucky) Wildcat, she remains an avid fan of college basketball, as well as horse racing—an interest developed after working at Kentucky’s esteemed thoroughbred race track, Keeneland.
