An accountant by training, Cheryl Wolfersberger says: “in finance, numbers are numbers and accountants can pretty much count anything, but the Merit environment has been amongst the most fun I’ve had as a finance professional.”
Ms. Wolfersberger manages Merit’s finance department and oversees the human resources, IT and building facility areas of the organization. A member of the senior leadership team, she maintains responsibility for all financial aspects of the organization. In 2015 she served as the interim Executive Director during a six-month search for the current Director.
Prior to coming to Merit in May 2011, Ms. Wolfersberger held a number of financial roles in both major corporate and nonprofit organizations, including finance manager, sales analysis manager and senior financial analyst. Ms. Wolfersberger has been heard to quip that she “knows how to make financial statements sing the praises of a deserving organization like Merit.”
Ms. Wolfersberger is a licensed CPA and holds a certification in human resource practices and laws (SHRM-CP). She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and a Master of Science in finance from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
When not crunching numbers, Ms. Wolfersberger enjoys biking, cooking and entertaining with friends and family.
“Music impacts us all whether we play an instrument or just listen. I am continually fascinated by the various ways that Merit students express their enthusiasm.”
